Diyala Medicine holds a scientific symposium on postmenopausal bleeding
The Faculty of Medicine at Diyala University held an electronic scientific symposium on postmenopausal bleeding, in which Dr. Inam Faisal Muhammad lectured via Zoom program
The symposium defined this bleeding as any bleeding after the absence of menstruation for a full year, and it is one of the signs that should not be ignored.
Where the causes that lead to the occurrence of this condition were addressed, which may be benign causes such as vaginal dryness as a result of stopping the ovarian hormones, or causes that may be dangerous such as cancer of the uterus, ovaries, cervix, etc. It may also be due to drugs that increase blood thinning, such as aspirin.
The symposium also explained how to conduct a thorough medical examination and conduct the necessary analyzes and examinations to find out the cause, and thus treatment is carried out according to the case.
The symposium also raised awareness about the factors that increase the risk of uterine cancer, being the most important cause of postmenopausal bleeding, such as obesity, diabetes, the presence of similar cancers in the family, women who have been diagnosed with infertility, frequent use of ovarian stimulants for a very long time, and women who suffer from polycystic ovary syndrome. They have to undergo a medical examination when any uterine bleeding occurs for the purpose of early diagnosis and avoiding progression and exacerbation of the condition.
