College of Medicine holds a scientific symposium on (The Phenomenon of Addiction to Social Networking Sites and its Chemical and Behavioral Effects)
Under the auspices of the Dean of the college of Medicine, University of Diyala, Prof. Dr. Ismail Ibrahim Latif, the Rehabilitation and Employment Division held a scientific symposium entitled (The Phenomenon of Addiction to Social Networking Sites and its Chemical and Behavioral Effects) presented by Assistant Lecturer Ammar Ahmed Hussein
The speaker started with the definition of the phenomenon of addiction to social networking sites showed its biochemical and behavioral effects and excessive uses of the Internet, especially social networking sites, accompanied by a negative impact on the psychological and physical, physiological health of users, and it has been found in many researches that the effects of social media addiction include anxiety, depression, sleep, food disorders and physical ill health, as well as reduced academic performance and social isolation, in addition to biochemical disorders, changes in the levels of some hormones such as cortisol, adrenaline, serotonin, and melatonin in addition to the accompanying behavioral disorders.
In the end he mention the methods of treatment of Internet addiction through individual, group or family treatment, or resorting to specialists to develop a treatment plan commensurate with his health condition.
