University of Diyala/ College of Medicine holds a scientific symposium entitled (Congenital jaundice, its causes and methods of treatment).
Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Ismail Ibrahim Latif, the Continuing Education Division held a scientific symposium entitled (Congenital jaundice, its causes and methods of treatment), in which Professor Dr. Jalil Ibrahim Kazem, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, lectured. The definition of infant jaundice included (causes, methods of treatment, and prevention), which is a yellow discoloration of the skin and eyes of a newborn. Infant jaundice occurs because the baby’s blood contains an excess of bilirubin, a yellow pigment from red blood cells. Infant jaundice is a common condition, especially in infants born in the 37th week of pregnancy (preterm) and some who are breastfed. Infant jaundice usually occurs because the baby’s liver is not mature enough to eliminate bilirubin from the bloodstream. In some children, an underlying disease may cause jaundice.
