A lecturer from Diyala College of Medicine obtains a doctorate at Al-Nahrain University
The lecturer assistant from the Diyala College of Medicine, Microbiology Branch, the assistant lecturer (Mustafa Ahmed Daoud), obtained a doctorate at Al-Nahrain University for his thesis titled
(A study on the association of human papilloma virus in infertile males and the possible role of HPV-L1 and aquaporin 8 proteins interaction
Study of the relationship between human papillomavirus in infertile males and the possible role of the mutual influence between the virus protein L1 and aquaporin protein 8)
The discussion committee was chaired by the Dean of the College of Medicine in Diyala, Professor Dr. Ismail Ibrahim Latif, and supervised by Professor Dr. Arwa Mujahid Abdullah from the College of Medicine at Al-Nahrain University and Professor Dr. Ola Muhammad Reda Al-Kawaz from the Higher Institute for Infertility Diagnosis and Assisted Reproductive Technologies at Al-Nahrain University, on Sunday, 2 -6-2024
The thesis examined 200 semen samples using Real Time PCR technology from 100 males suffering from idiopathic infertility and 100 healthy males. The results showed that 20 samples were positive for high-risk human papillomavirus, and 17 positive samples were in males suffering from Infertility and 3 in males who have the ability to reproduce.
The study showed a statistically significant effect of high-risk HPV infection on sperm shape P>0.002 and sperm motility P>0.004. The results also showed a highly statistically significant correlation between the level of oxidative stress and sperm parameters and infection with HPV P>0.004. 0.001 In addition, the study showed the binding of HPV-L1 protein and AQP8 protein at the same location within the sperm head in HPV-positive samples.
The results of the study concluded that HPV infection has a role in male infertility due to the interference of aquaporin-8 on sperm, which leads to increased oxidative stress.
