The College of Medicine Holds a Scientific Symposium Titled “Combating Organized Crime”

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Diyala, Professor Dr. Ismail Ibrahim Latif, and in the presence of the Dean’s Assistants for Academic and Administrative Affairs, the Continuing Education Division, in cooperation with the College’s Media and Government Communication Division, organized a scientific symposium titled “Combating Organized Crime.” The symposium was presented by Brigadier General Ali Kamal Ali, Director of the Diyala Organized Crime Directorate; Brigadier General Ahmed Bakr Hamoud, Director of the Anti-Smuggling Crimes Department; and Assistant Chief Physicist Muhammad Wahib Abd.
The symposium addressed the concept of organized crime and its various forms, such as human trafficking, money laundering, industrial fraud, and currency counterfeiting, in addition to smuggling crimes related to weapons, medicines, and antiquities.
The lecturers highlighted the serious social, economic, and security implications of these crimes. They also reviewed modern methods and mechanisms for detecting and tracking criminal networks, emphasizing the importance of employing technology in combating and monitoring operations. The symposium emphasized the pivotal role played by the Organized Crime Directorate, the judicial authorities, and civil society organizations in curbing the spread of this phenomenon, emphasizing the seriousness of money laundering crimes and their connection to the financing of criminal activities. The symposium also included an awareness-raising section focusing on the importance of individuals’ role in reporting suspicious activities and the necessity of community cooperation with security agencies. It also provided practical guidance to avoid falling victim to extortion or fraud, as part of collective efforts aimed at achieving societal security and stability.
