Academic Collaboration to Combat Violence Against Women: Diyala College of Medicine and College of Dentistry Hold Joint Awareness Seminar

Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Medicine in Diyala, Professor Dr. Ismail Ibrahim Latif, the college’s Sustainable Development Committee, in cooperation with the College of Dentistry, organized a comprehensive awareness seminar entitled “Violence Against Women: Its Effects and Ways to Reduce It.” The seminar was attended by faculty members, staff, and students from both colleges.
The seminar aimed to highlight the forms of domestic and societal violence to which women are subjected, and to explain its psychological, physical, and social repercussions. It also aimed to promote a culture of respect for women’s rights and empower them to play an active role in building society.
The session featured important educational presentations by His Eminence Sayyid Fadhil Hatem Al-Moussawi, Brigadier General Omar Mohammed Abbas, Director of the General Traffic Directorate, and Lieutenant Colonel Younis Ali Jamil. They discussed the legal and social aspects of violence against women and emphasized the importance of legal protection and raising awareness to promote justice and equality. The event aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (gender equality) and Goal 16 (peace, justice, and strong institutions) by raising awareness of women’s rights, reducing violence, and supporting educational institutions in fostering a safe environment free from all forms of discrimination.
The seminar was also attended by the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Mustafa Ghani, who affirmed his college’s support for such awareness-raising activities, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts between academic and community institutions to combat violence against women.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the Dean of the College of Medicine in Diyala commended the speakers for their efforts in raising community awareness and honored them in recognition of their active contribution to the seminar’s success and their role in promoting a culture of respect for women’s rights within the university and the wider community.
